Bushmen appeal again to Leonardo DiCaprio
Monday, December 11th, 2006The Bushmen have appealed again to Leonardo DiCaprio after diamond companies began to explore for diamonds on their lands.
“These are conflict diamonds because diamonds are the root of our sorrow and pain,” the Bushmen wrote. “They caused us to be moved from the land of our ancestors. We say these diamonds are killing us the Bushmen. We ask you to please, please help us. We think people will listen to you because you are famous and respected.”
This latest appeal follows a full-page advert published in Hollywood’s Variety magazine asking for DiCaprio’s help to return home. DiCaprio is currently starring in a movie, Blood Diamond, about the war and misery fuelled by the diamond industry in Africa.
